24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the King was astonied, and rose up in haste and spoke, and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, true, O king.

(The word “astonied” means “terrified” What the king saw terrified him!)

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the son of God.

Daniel 3: 24, 25

Who was Nebuchadnezzar

According to the Hebrew Bible, Nebuchadnezzar II was a villain who was punished by God for his pride. However, some Jewish traditions portray him more favorably.

The Bible's portrayal of Nebuchadnezzar

·         In the book of 2 Kings, Nebuchadnezzar's army besieged Jerusalem, looted the temple, and exiled skilled workers to Babylon.

·         In the book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar was punished for his pride by being driven mad and forced to live like an animal for seven years.

·         The Bible says that Nebuchadnezzar was arrogant and boasted about building Babylon.
